RIFAK This group is composed of musicians with extensive experience of Arab, Oriental and Al-Andalus Music, which serve to remind us how the shared history of Al-Andalus left us a cultural legacy which still survives and forms part of our roots.
RIFAK's live repertoire, “Gems of Arab and Andalusian Music”, includes traditional, classical and Al-Andalus pieces; compositions from Morocco, Turkey, Egypt etc, some of which are unreleased, with original arrangements combining Oriental rhythms and traditional Arab instruments such as the kanun (Arab harp), the oud (Arab lyre), darbuka, riq, bendir, sanáas (sung fragments of Al-Andalus poems), the bass clarinet, the ney, the Turkish clarinet, etc, all the while respecting historic rigour and the traditional spirit of this music.
It is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful selections of Arab and Al-Andalus music which never fails to delight the audience.
RIFAK (which translates as 'the friends', 'the companions') carries out important work in recovering and disseminating the spirit of Al-Andalus as a meeting place, something so necessary in these times.
